5 facts about metallized paper
Here are 5 surprising facts about metallized paper:
1. Metallized paper is paper-thin.
To produce our papers, we vaporise a microscopic layer of aluminium onto a sheet of plain paper, creating a layer that’s 900 times thinner than regular foil and makes up less than 5% of the product’s total weight.
2. Metallized paper can be used for just about anything (well, nearly).
The light, vapour and transmission barrier properties conferred by vacuum metallization make it suitable for a wide variety of packaging applications, from food bags to gift wrap. What’s more, functionality can be adjusted to suit different products.
3. Metallized paper is printed in silver
then coated in coloured ink to produce the desired shade.
4. Metallized paper may look futuristic, but it reacts to humidity similarly to plain paper.
For this reason, we recommend storing rolls and skids indoors in the packaging they came in and keeping the wrapping in place until processing in a temperature range of 65°F to 75°F.
5. Metallized paper is a fully recyclable paperbased monomaterial
Metallized paper is a recyclable monomaterial. Our metallized papers (even when utilized as a secondary packaging) don’t contaminate recyclable primary packaging – even when it’s laminated to materials such as board and paper.
