Advantages of metallized papers for general cut and stack labels
Canned foods – both private labels and well-loved brands are selling in extraordinary volumes in 2020. Cupboard staples of long-lasting foods such as jars of pasta sauces, condiments, salad dressings, and pickles are among the other products that are also enjoying increased consumer interest.
We explore some of the advantages of using metallized papers for general cut and stack labels.
A print-ready and efficient label material
AR Metallizing’s papers are print-ready, facilitating set up and processing for printers. They are also easily interchangeable with traditional white cut and stack C1S label on printing machinery, meaning that set up and production is quick and doesn’t require additional preparation. Because our metallized papers are print-ready, printers can adapt quickly to the needs of their customers.
Our papers are used by the food industry, particularly for canned goods and jars
‘Throughout 2020, there has been an increased demand for these products. A label material that is easy and efficient to run and which facilitates printing and converting during high output periods has been very advantageous,’ says Lindsey Barbee, National Account Manager, AR Metallizing USA.
Suitable for multiple industries
AR Metallizing’s papers for cut and stack labels are ideal for a variety of industries, including food (canned soups, vegetables, legumes, olives, fruits, dried goods and sauces), pet food, and household cleaning products (powders, liquids and chemicals).
‘The versatility of our product is valuable for printers and converters who use our products to support brand owners across the globe. We supply our metallized solutions in customer specific sizes, supporting both sheetfed and web offset presses. Many of our solutions are provided in several basis weights, designed to meet the performance requirements of the end-use application. AR Metallizing’s quality allows are printers to support some of the world’s leading brands,’ says Lindsey.
Innovative label looks and holography

Innovative label looks and holography
Increasingly, stand out, innovative looks are drawing consumers to products that use general labels.
‘Traditionally, these are in highly competitive sectors, but equally, generating new consumers interest in the goods has been a challenge – products have sometimes not undergone branding for some time or have an ‘old school’ image. Brands are asking printers and converters to help them innovate their label looks to retain market share or attract new customers. Metallized paper presents a win-win: brands get more attractive labels and printers and converters can work with a label material that allows them to reach their efficiency goals,’ explains Lindsey.
Brands are looking to their printers and converters to help them bring new looks to market. Holographic labels can be appealing as they allow for unique looks that undeniably add shelf appeal. Despite the innovative looks, AR Metallizing’s holographic paper can be treated as a coated paper, rather than a trying to introduce a new material into the supply chain to benefit from innovative looks.
Durability
Particularly for canned goods, durability is a key consideration, especially now that e-commerce and online shopping is increasingly in-demand. Shelf life is also essential: a label has to look good at both the grocery and at home
‘Especially when our products are used for canned goods, we get a lot of questions about the durability and shelf life of our paper for labels. Consumers aren’t careful with cans because they don’t have to be. For the obvious reasons, cans get handled with a lot less love than say, a glass jar. Printers, converters and brands are looking for a label material that can stand up to rough handling. Given cans in particular are exposed to tough treatment in the shopping cart or out on the road for home delivery, brands want to make sure their labels look good despite the harsh atmosphere. Our papers are very durable and resistant to damage. Our metallized papers also have a long shelf life, which is key as canned goods have excellent longevity. All in all, our papers are an ideal label choice for general cut and stack labels,’ says Lindsey in conclusion.
