Autumn and winter candy trends 2022

Good news: contrary to recent announcements, you won’t have to go without your favourite Halloween candy this year. A major American confectionery manufacturer has dialled back rumours that supply chain issues would lead to shortages this October, leading those with a sweet tooth to breathe a sigh of relief.

Here are some of the sweet treats we can look forward to picking off the shelves this season:

chocolate indulgence

Comforting indulgence

According to research, 78% of adults believe it is perfectly fine to occasionally treat themselves to chocolate or candy. Cold temperatures and cosy atmospheres go hand-in-hand with rich, indulgent treats, and seasonal notes of cinnamon, ginger and clove are likely to put in another appearance this year.

Individually-wrapped chocolates and candiescandy wrappers

Nearly 75% of consumers believe it’s important for confectioners to offer a wide variety of portion sizes. The trend for hygienic, easily-transportable individually-wrapped candies, which kicked off during the first year of the pandemic, shows no sign of slowing down, despite concerns about extra packaging waste. However, companies can mitigate their environmental impact by opting for wrappers based on recyclable monomaterials, such as our METIVO range of chocolate wrappers and metallized paper.

Indulgent doesn’t have to mean unhealthy or bad for the planet. Consumers are paying more attention than ever before to what goes into the chocolate and candy they buy, as well as where it comes from. Plant-based confectionery is seeing a rise in sales, as is organic and sugar-free versions. Our twisting chocolate wrappers meet the needs of sustainably-minded and health-conscious consumers as they are 90% paper-based, contain no plastic or aluminium foil and are wax-free.
