Design-forward coffee packaging for innovative brands
Legend has it that the discovery of coffee dates all the way back to the 15th century, when an Ethiopian goat herder noticed his charges getting particularly frisky after snacking on the berries of a certain tree… Fast forward several hundred years, and coffee is something many of us can’t start our day without. And with cafés across the world hit with mandated closures for much of 2021, at-home coffee consumption has seen a gain in popularity that is reflected in increasingly creative, design-forward packaging and new, easy to consume formats.
Instant coffee
Instant coffee hasn’t always had the best reputation, but a new generation of brands are combining high quality beans with innovative production techniques to create coffee that’s as flavourful as it is convenient. To help their products stand out from the competition, premium instant coffee brands are opting for eye-catching metallized labels for a distinctive look. And speaking of metallic finishes, the Y2K aesthetic - think iridescent, holographic effects and a silvery backdrop - is still going strong, and making its way from fashion to packaging design.
Ready-to-drink
Ready-to-drink (RTD) bottled coffees used to be the preserve of international conglomerates such as Starbucks, but increasing numbers of boutique brands are offering their own versions. High quality wet strength labels are key to ensuring that iced lattes, cold brews and mochas stay looking as good as they taste all the way from manufacturing facilities to supermarket shelves.
