Gloss, glossy and glossier
Exploring different shine finishes for our customers
‘When it comes to creating gloss, a number of factors play a part, and it is the combination of base paper, the metallizing process and coatings that define the end result and the overall gloss factor: after all, not every customer needs the highest level of gloss for every application. It’s relatively standard for beer labels not to require a high gloss level, for example. Conversely, products like spirit labels require much more gloss’, explains Massimiliano Belotti, Technical Manager.
‘Depending on the needs of our individual customers, we work with them to explain the different gloss options that may be available to them and still meet all the visual and technical requirements for their label or packaging,’ adds Giancarlo Rossetto, Vice President Sales & Marketing.
Interestingly, it is not only customers looking to bring new products to market and are looking at packaging material options that are interested in gloss. For brands looking to move towards more eco-friendly materials, gloss is a key consideration when looking at PET alternatives.
‘A brand that wants to move towards paper-based packaging driven by sustainability reasons is often very interested in learning more about our gloss levels because they may not know as much about our products with other metallized products in the market. It’s very important for these brands that they can bridge the gap between more eco-friendly packaging products and the very glossy, shiny looks that are associated with their products,’ adds Giancarlo.
By exploring the options that metallized paper can present these brands our portfolio can sometimes lend some positive surprises: glossy finishes that are ideal for a number of applications and which are paper-based and recyclable.
