How does source reduction work?

At AR Metallizing, we’re committed to preserving the planet for future generations. There are a number of ways in which we work towards our sustainability goals, which can probably be summed up by the words source reduction.

But what is source reduction, and how does it differ from other processes used to achieve sustainability? Source reduction, also known as waste reduction, aims to reduce the amount, volume and toxicity of materials used throughout the product life cycle. Put simply, we seek to use as little material and energy as possible to produce our metallized papers, which are easily recycled.

Here’s how that’s possible: metallized paper is a monomaterial, which means it’s energy-efficient to both produce and recycle. The microscopically thin layer of aluminium we use to make metallized paper is hundreds of times lighter than classic aluminum foil and foil laminations, which can’t be handled by single-stream recycling programs.
