Setting the record straight about metallized paper

Setting the record straight about metallized paper

Metallized paper is a highly technical material that’s suitable for a wide variety of applications, including food contact solutions, e-commerce packaging, labelling and more. However, there are still a lot of misconceptions around metallized paper, which is often confused with similar-looking materials. Here are some of the more common ones:

  1. It’s just there to look pretty: metallized paper does indeed look great on the shelf. But our papers offer far more than just aesthetics: they also offer optimal barrier properties, excellent foldability and good resilience to harsh transport and storage conditions.
  2. Metallized paper comes in several colours: though our papers can be used to create all kinds of gorgeous effects, they are actually only produced in silver. However, their excellent printability and compatibility with conventional machinery makes it easy to create beautiful bold looks by printing them in transparent inks.
  3. It’s not sustainable: while it may look similar, metallized paper is not the same thing as aluminium foil or metallized PET film. We produce our papers by vaporising approximately 20-30 nanometers - i.e a microscopically thin layer - of aluminium onto plain paper. This enables the base material to retain its original look and feel, while offering the technical benefits outlined above. It also makes it 100% recyclable.
