The past year came with its fair share of challenges. However, one piece of good news came out of the health crisis: consumers continue to make sustainability a major priority when it comes to their purchasing choices. According to recent research:

  • 57% of consumers are prepared to change their shopping habits to reduce their environmental impact, and 80% say sustainability is important to them. 
  • Consumers worldwide are focused on sustainability, but China leads the way with 86% of respondents willing to pay more for sustainable packaging, followed by Indonesia, the United States, and Brazil.
  • Up to 61% of people say that clearer sustainability information on labels and increased availability of “green” packaging would encourage them to pay more for a product.


What does this imply for brands? When it comes to packaging, there is a clear desire on the part of consumers for increased focus and clearer communication on sustainability commitments.
