What are Food Contact Materials (FCMs) and Food Contact Substances?
Here at Nissha Metallizing Solutions, we offer a range of food safe packaging products for a wide range of applications. But what does “food safe”, represented across much of the world by an icon showing a fork next to a wine glass, actually mean?
Food contact materials
Food contact materials, or FCMs, are used in items or equipment that come into contact with food, whether direct or indirect. This can include packaging products, containers, household appliances such as coffee makers and factory production line machinery. Food Contact Substances, on the other hand, are components of those materials that do not have a technical effect on food, such as polymers, sealants and glues, additives and foils.
Articles referred to as “food safe” contain FCMs and FCS and are stringently tested to ensure they pose no danger to human consumption. Find out more about our food contact safe certified, mono-material food packaging range here.
